Welcome
Welcome to Ulverston at the gateway to The Lake District! A beautiful, bustling little town with fascinating cobbled streets framed by distinctive quality shops of all types. An ideal base for those visiting both The Lake District and Morecambe Bay where you really must take in the awe inspiring sunsets! Ulverston is at the start of the Cumbria Way, only a stones throw from Cartmel Sands, and just buzzes with activity . Hardly surprising, therefore, that it is known as South Lakeland’s friendliest market town.
The Word Market held every February is a celebrated festival for both writers and readers, then there is the Dickensian Christmas Festival, the July Carnival and a calendar otherwise crammed with fascinating interest for both residents and visitors. One of the most spectacular festivals in the town's calendar is The Lantern Procession in September. The whole town busies itself iwith making white paper lanterns that are paraded through the streets after dark.
Ulverston’s main claim to fame though is that was the birthplace for Stan Laurel, half of the legendary Laurel and Hardy, so don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Laurel and Hardy Museum. The town, though, is not, to quote Oliver Hardy, “another fine mess!” You will remember your visit with pleasure and affection and, we know that you will want to return again and again.
A lovely town with an artistic influence and lots of trading establishments catering for both the tourist and the resident, there is no busier area in Ulverston than Market Street and on that thoroughfare, nowhere more fascinating or with a more intriguing title than The Tinners Rabbit! A gallery displaying memorable items for the visitor to enjoy whilst, essentially, creating a platform for painters and craftsmen on which to display their undoubted skills. In order to fulfil this role, we have five studios within the premises where the artist can create his or her piece of art in a sympathetic environment and where the visitor can also experience a unique atmosphere where the artist is at work.
We at The Tinners’ Rabbit do much more than this though. Jewellery, cards, ceramics and textiles all have an important role as does our bespoke framing business for individual commissions and exhibitions. We also have a companion shop for distinctive ladies wear, known as Two by Two.
Individual, imaginative, friendly and quality are words which spring to mind when describing The Tinners’ Rabbit, but words can only go so far. To appreciate what Ulverston in general and The Tinners’ Rabbit in particular has to offer, we look forward to your early visit.
